Ron Gomboc, International Artists & Sculpture by the Sea

We are pleased to announce that Ron Gomboc is the inaugural Distinguished Invited Western Australian Artist for Sculpture by the sea, Cottesloe.

 

Working in stainless steel or aluminium Ron has exhibited in many of our Bondi exhibitions and all of our Cottesloe shows. Over the years he has won a number of awards and been purchased by collectors across the country, with 'Spirit of the Albatross', pictured below, purchased by Alcoa Aluminium for installation in Geelong, Victoria.

 

Over the past 25 years Ron and his wife Terrie have invited artists from across the world to stay with them to make sculptures in Ron's studio. In the lead up to Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe Jean-Pierre Rives of France and Keizo Ushio of Japan have joined the Gombocs to work on sculptures for shows with the Gombocs and for our show at Cottesloe.

Last year Ron and Jean-Pierre struck up a friendship, with Jean-Pierre inviting Ron to exhibit with him in Paris in the lead up to the 2007 Rugby World Cup (yes, Jean-Pierre is the rugby Jean-Pierre, former French captain, hated by the English, loved by everyone else!). He currently has a great show on at the Gomboc's gallery

Keizo is one of Japan's leading sculptors who has been exhibiting with Sculpture by the Sea since 1999. He is this year's international invited artist for the 25th Gomboc Gallery Sculpture Survey which runs from 1 - 29 June.
